For first-time London holidaymakers, Northwest London can often be overlooked as a tourist destination. With so many attractions in the centre of the city, areas such as Maida Vale and Kilburn are often overshadowed by the more flashy districts of the city. For guests of hotels near Paddington Station London, the northwest district of Queen’s Park offers more than you might first think.

Below are some of the amenities and attractions you can find around this leafy, quiet area of the city. The calmness of Queen’s Park does not outweigh its proximity to some great tourist attractions, so guests of hotel London offers in the area won’t be disappointed by what they can find right on their doorstep.

Queen’s Park – An Overview

Just four miles from the centre of the English capital, Queen’s Park is bordered by leafy and well-known areas like Paddington and Hampstead. Part of the reason that Queen’s Park is so overlooked is that it didn’t have a formal identity until the 21st century. Up until then it was more or less incorporated into its neighbouring Chelsea, Paddington and Willesden. It is the latter that’s ancient parish Queen’s Park was part of. Nowadays, however, Queen’s Park has formed its own unique community and drawn in tourists thanks to luxury accommodation like the Queen’s Park Hotel London.

Getting To Know The Titular Park

Guests of northwestern family accommodation in London will find plenty of green spaces to give the kids a runaround. Queen’s Park itself dates back to the 1880s and is a prime example of Victorian London landscaping. The winding paths, shrubberies and playing fields offer plenty of choice for relaxing in the summer whilst the tennis courts, pitch and putt, a petting zoo, a playground and paddling pool give tired parents plenty of ways to entertain the kids. Make sure not to miss the bandstand, a signature design of late-Victorian architecture.

Annual Events In Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park instils a sense of community through several weekly and annual events. First up – and easiest to catch – is the district’s Sunday Farmers Market, taking place every week in the grounds of Salusbury Primary School. Here visitors can find tasty snacks and local produce from independent bakeries, cafes and foodmakers.

Second up is the Lexi Cinema, volunteer run independent cinema that hosts Q&A’s with visiting filmmakers alongside workshops for budding cinephiles, both old and young.

Annual events that take place in Queen’s Park include the increasingly popular Book Festival, which is programmed at various venues in the area. Though it used to take place every June, it now appears to be scheduled for September 2023. Guests for this year include cookbook writer Michael Roux, children’s author Rob Biddulph and a variety of local poets and authors.

Queen’s Park Day will also take place in September, and its programme often includes music, entertainers, a funfair and associated stalls, making for a great way to meet members of the local community. Queen’s Park Day celebrates the Northwest London area and all of its charm.
