Great Family Day Trips From London

Despite the fact that London is home to some of the best family friendly attractions in the country, guests of London hotel special offers may want to explore a little further afield. Thankfully, London is one of the best connected cities in the country, with dozens of train terminuses serving almost all of Great Britain directly.

If a sunny spring day out of the hustle and bustle of London is a tempting offer, then guests of hotels in London with parking will be well equipped to explore a little further afield as well. The road routes out of the city provide easy access to many of these heritage cities and landmarks, many of which are less than 2 hours away from the English capital.

Margate

Margate

Situated on the coast of Kent, Margate is a tranquil beach town that’s home to a scenic promenade and art gallery named after former resident JMW Turner. The free-to-visit Turner Gallery is dedicated to both the artist’s work and that of contemporary creators, acting as a great alternative to London’s thriving art scene. If the kids get bored, take them down to Dreamland, the Kentish town’s resident funfair.

Cambridge

Dating back to 1209, Cambridge University is one of the best in the world, so it’s no surprise that the beautiful town around it has amassed a great many museums. If the Fitzwilliam Museum of Art and Antiquities or the University’s Archaeology Museums don’t float the kids boat, then take them on a real one! The River Cam runs through Cambridge, and guests of the Queens Park Hotel London will find the “punting” boats a fun way to spend time on the water that doesn’t involve the Serpentine Lake and narrowly avoiding families of angry swans.

Brighton

Brighton

Easy to reach from many of London’s train stations, Brighton is a Regency era town that was made famous by the Prince Regent, son of King George III’s fondness for the town. In fact, he found the former fishing village such an ideal retreat that he built the striking Royal Pavilion here in 1787 so he could spend more time amidst the pebbly promenade. Alongside its royal heritage, Brighton is also home to a classic British promenade beach as well as a funfair adorned pier and even its own Sea Life Centre. Adults and children alike will find much to love about Sussex’s one of a kind city.

Oxford

Less than an hour outside of London, Oxford’s Mediaeval era University is another British institution that is well renowned. Much like Cambridge, guests of family accommodation London can expect to find a myriad of attractions in this Cotswolds bordering city, including the Ashmolean history museum and tours of the gothic spired University campus.

Norwich

About a two hour drive out of London, Norwich is also reachable by train from London Liverpool Street Station. The beautiful city is situated in the much-overlooked East of England, and comes equipped with its own Norman era castle and vibrant market centre. The city’s museums and attractions make for a great family day trip.
